Peter Sarsgaard In Negotiations For Hector Hammond

The Hollywood Reporter via Heat Vision Blog is reporting that actor Peter Sarsgaard is in talks with Warner Brothers to appear as Hector Hammond in the upcoming Green Lantern film. Hammond, as anyone who's familiar with the comics knows, is a "pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers".
Sarsgaard has put forth some Oscar-worthy performances before. Most recently finishing up work on "Knight and Day" with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
The general consensus so far from the fan community indicates that Sarsgaard is a welcomed member of the Green Lantern cast. Hammond is described by the casting call as follows:
[DR. HECTOR HAMMOND]
27-35, Character actor who is austere and impersonal, he is real "scummy." He is a pathologist and also the son of a Senator.
Early script reports present Hammond as the main "Earth-based" villain, the other villain, of course, being the alien entity (and Green Lantern terminator) Legion. Where as Legion serves primarily as a plot device, Hammond will be the villain who will receive the most character development. Announcements about the casting of Thaal Sinestro are likely on their way soon.
