Green Lantern Movie News Roundup!

Ryan Reynolds on the set of Green LanternThere's been a lot of GL movie news and I haven't posted any of it... Time for a round-up!

ComicBookMovie.com has posted some new set photos from Green Lantern, These ninja photos mostly show Ryan as Hal in some on-screen moments and some behind-the-scenes. There was also one image posted of Ryan and Director Martin Campbell.

Angela Bassett will play Amanda WallerAngela Basset has been added to the cast as government agent Amanda Waller. This casting is seen as move by DC to create a unified movie universe shared by all DC characters, this has not been confirmed yet, but there is much speculation on the subject.

We also found out via /Film that Hal's costume will be entirely made of CGI, which was confirmed by Geoff Johns himself.

Other random tidbits from /Film:

  • That leaked set photo of the silver ship is indeed Abin Sur’s crashed spaceship
  • Temura Morrison looks legit as Abin Sur, although his head isn’t as elongated as in the concept art photos leaked awhile back.
  • Peter Sarsgaard’s makeup tests with the enlarged head look cool. He has wild hair, kind of like Jason Lee in “My Name is Earl” and, of course, the kind of traditional Hector Hammond stache.
  • I’m told that Reynolds is awesome in the role. He’s knocking it out of the park so far.
  • The screenplay that leaked online is a very old draft. I’ve been told that the villains have changed a bit and that the rewritten script is supposedly way better in the end.

Intrepid investigative journalist, Pietro Filipponi from CBM.com was able to coax some info out of a lighting tech on one of the sets, confirming that the costume will bear a striking resemblance to the one seen in the comics, quote "black and green and white". It is believed now that Hal will be portrayed with the classic white gloves in the film. The tech also noted that the transformation of the costume would look very similar to paint covering someone's body.

In another interview he talked to an effects person at Sony Imageworks who confirmed a few facts about the film:

  • The Green Lantern concept art of Kilowog, Abin Sur, Tomar-Re and the Guardians, which was leaked a few months ago, is official studio sanctioned artwork. They were early drafts, but official none the less. Though the logo attached to each image won't be the final version, it is still being used on and off the set.
  • We will definitely have a trailer revealed at this year's San Diego Comic Con International (July 21st - 24th). It's going to "steal the show".
  • Teaser posters for the film should be arriving in theaters this Fall. Some of the art department members have been tinkering around with holographic designs for them; mostly for fun, though.
  • The budget for the film is well over $200 million US, before taking into account Louisiana tax incentives for production. This sum also includes advertising cost.
  • Even if you're not a fan of 3D films, you won't want to miss this one when it hits theaters. The construct designs and visuals are being tailored for maximum 3D effect.
  • The Green Lantern power batteries are being included in the film; unlike the Green Lantern: First Flight animated movie.
  • Yes, Hal Jordan will be wearing the iconic domino mask in the film.
