Geoff Johns Praises Mark Strong's Sinestro

Geoff Johns praises Mark Strong as Sinestro

Green Lantern scribe and DC Entertainment's new Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns made a post on DC's "The Source" blog Yesterday (June 15th). Johns was there to talk about mostly non-comic book news, namely an attempt at making a live-action Blue Beetle TV Show, he showed pictures from an effects test of the scarab transforming into the suit, and promised that the actual test footage would be seen at this year's San Diego ComiCon.

Geoff also had some things to say about the new Aqualad who will be making an appearance in Brightest Day as well as the new Cartoon Network show "Young Justice". This shows how much DC and WB are moving to streamline their characters across all media, a bold move indeed, but welcomed none-the-less.

Finally, the icing on the cake, Johns had a few things to say about recent screen tests of Mark Strong in his Sinestro makeup.

"I just returned from New Orleans, where GREEN LANTERN is deep in production set for release in June 2011. GREEN LANTERN has an unreal crew and cast. Grant Major – the Production Designer on LORD OF THE RINGS. Martin Campbell – the director of CASINO ROYALE. And Mark Strong from SHERLOCK HOLMES and KICK-ASS as Sinestro. And while I was there, there was a test on Sinestro. How he looks. How he moves. An amazing test."

"Unfortunately, that test is top secret."

"I can say with confidence, however, if you like Sinestro you’re going to love Mark Strong as Sinestro. Powerful, regal, intimidating. Mark clearly has done his research and embraced every aspect of what makes Sinestro one of the greatest, most complex characters within the vast, epic universe of the Green Lantern Corps. I think you’ll be as psyched as I am when you finally see him."

Needless to say, it appears that Mark Strong has really done his research and fully immersed himself in what makes Sinestro the way he is. With an enthusiastic endorsement from Geoff Johns, the very man who propelled Sinestro from a pesky, second-rate villain to a universe threatening anarchist, I feel confident that Green Lantern has a bright future on the screen.
